On the run-up to the National Army Day on April 18, a group commanders and staff of Iran’s army renewed allegiance to the ideals of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran late Imam Khomeini.
The top army brass paid respects to Imam Khomeini and put flowers on his shrine.
Speaking at the ceremony, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan paid tribute to Imam Khomeini and voiced his felicitation on the National Army Day.
The military units stayed in borders and trenches following that Iran accepted the UN Resolution 598 (which ended the eight-year Iran-Iraq war in 1988) and the situation of no-war no-peaces, the commander of Iran’s Army Ground Force recalled.
Referring to the conspiracy of enemies against the Islamic Revolution, general Pourdastan said that many traitors backed by foreign enemies who were not pleased with the victory of the revolution embarked on disarming the country and dissolving the army.
“But Imam (Khomeini) (SA) identified the treason and foiled their plots,” he noted, adding that the role of the Supreme Leader, as the representative of Imam and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, could not be forgotten in the decision.
"Foreign forces are not capable of opening a new war front against Iran. However, as the country’s armed forces, the army keeps itself ready." Pointing to presence of foreign forces in Middle East Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan added.
